PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This was a class assignment where I had to make an 8 page booklet (front and back cover, 3 spreads) about a famous graphic designer. I chose Shigeo Fukuda because I adore his timeless style consisting of simplistic illustrations, bright colors, and negative space, not to mention his use of optical illusions. I wanted to emulate his style in how I designed the spreads of the booklet. My idea was that the backgrounds of each spread would more or less look like it could be one of his posters. I collected all of my favorite posters of his, both as references as well as to use as images in my booklet. I had to cut down the number of works of his included in the booklet in order to keep the design from being too cluttered which was difficult for me because I liked so many of his works. I chose yellow, red, and black for the background colors of the spreads because those were the colors that he used the most in his works and I picked which color to use for which spread depending on how it would contrast with the works I displayed on that spread. Overall, I feel like my booklet did a good job of informing about Fukuda while sticking to the principles of his style.
